Just Because

This post is especially for Brett.  Brett is spending his summer in Mexico (studying??), he has started a blog to document his summer journey.  He is probably the only follower of my blog and continually jokes about my lack of posting....so Brett this post is for you!
I am spending my holiday weekend - quietly.  Everyone who lives with me is working, so I have no exciting plans, which is A OK with me.  I am going to be doing a little knitting & movie watching today...more rain in the forecast.  Tomorrow I am going to do some yard work, plant a few flowers & generally try to get some sun on my very pale body.  Maybe the 510 will let me borrow the pool- since the landlord  nixed the pool - I can float around and tan :)
Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone....here is what I am knitting.

I'm Back- I'm Exhausted

Just a quick post to say- Great Weekend Carroll and Deb! I'll post the (blackmail) pictures tomorrow when I can think straight.
On the knitting front- We visited a very nice knitting shop Yarn2Ewe in Houston. Wendy stocks a great choice of Colinette, Rowan, ggh, Noro and many other yummy yarns. I showed great restraint and only purchased 3 balls of yarn but picked up some patterns that we don't carry currently at S&S.
Oh the Quilt show was nice too. On Friday we frequented the vendors first- ALL DAY- we did not look at one quilt in the show! When I went to pay for my first purchase- I didn't have my debit card. I had some cash but planned on using my card for my purchases- I was just slightly panicked since I had decided to travel light and not bring the credit cards; only my license and card. Lucky for me Deb to the rescue- she loves it when I am indebted to her. BTW the card was in my wallet at home-that didn't stop me though!! When I unpack I'll take some photos of the haul. On Saturday we did look at the quilts- as usual the Japanese made quilts were phenomenal. But overall there were not many that really excited me.
The food was yummy- Italian, German & Mexican- the beer St. Arnolds (local brewery)was really good and the accommodations were exceptional.
It was a great girls weekend that was long overdue- Oh yea Deb learned to knit again!! She is making a really pretty purple scarf out of Foliage and we taught her to spit splice!! I'm pooped and I need a long soak in the tub.

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween to all my favorites- yes that's you too Brett. I hear that you have been lurking but not making any comments (except on facebook). I think maybe while I am away you guys should post on my blog. I'm sure you could shake it up a bit- let me know if you are up to it.
It's official now Stitches and Scones won the Arts and Crafts Category on the Indy Channel A list competition!! Thanks to everyone who voted for us- we love you all- S&S just wouldn't be the same without you.
Boys- do you want to blog in my absence?
Gotta pack- what will I take to knit at the quilt show???

It's Quilt Festival Time

Only 2 days until it's a girls weekend away. Deb Birk and I are flying off to Houston to the quilt festival and market. We're staying with Carroll (our over achiever friend) for the weekend. She has plenty of side trips planned- a wine bar near the convention center-various other eating and drinking establishments. She did mention it will be cheaper to drink at her house-yeah more money for fiber purchases! There is a stop planned to Yarn2Ewe as soon as she picks us up at the airport. It will be fun to visit another yarn shop and see how it compares to ours. PS we find out the results of the A List tomorrow- I'm sure we will be partying soon!
Craig showed me how to post pictures to this blog today. I am sooo excited. We were supposed to go to Lafayette and pick up a small easy to use digital camera-however Craig went to clean up his truck and never came back. That is so typical of my darling boy! So I guess I will go by myself tomorrow and buy the camera. I'll post pictures from Houston.
On the house progress- Rick started the painting in the living room- the ceiling is painted a light green and the walls are cut in- tansy green. I love it. But I hear the color scheme was said to look like Candyland. Rick did you really say that? There are paint chips taped all over the family room walls from light yellow gold to a dusky purple. Ummm is purple too much? I have decided on a metallic teal for the study- it is gorgeous- and will look great with all the wood that will be in that room. I am so excited to get this finished. It will be great to have friends over again and not be completely embarrassed by the disaster.
Now I am going to knit on the Einstein. I don't think it will be finished before I leave and it's just too bulky to take along- I think? It is mindless knitting=something to consider when drinking with the girls.

Floors are sanded- it's time to knit!!

It was a busy weekend at the Wheeler's. We (Rick) sanded the hardwood floors in the final 3 rooms. It is always an adventure when you rent a sander-this one had 3 speeds; off, vibrating and out of control. As Rick swore the machine spun him around-which is no small feat if you know the size of my hubby! Finally it was time to wash down all the woodwork. I thought I would be able to do this in no time flat and started in the study- 3 hours later I almost had the first room finished-then I begged for help. Rick and Ross to the rescue about 3-4 hours later we had the family room and living room finished that left the entry foyer and staircase. Thank God for Pizza Hut- we refueled and finished. The floors got their 1st coat of finish before bedtime. The best part of the day was when we finally sat down to watch a little TV and Rick brought out the beer Patrick brewed. It was a dark beer (export stout) and it was great. It was exactly what I needed- it made me believe that my legs and butt were not as sore as I feared! Where was that beer this morning when I tried to hop out of bed.
So the plans for this evening is dinner out with my brother Jason and his lovely pregnant wife Maria and then home to knit. I am going to knit on my Einstein Coat. I have completed the bottom, right front and 1/2 of the back. I want to have this finished before I leave for Houston on Thursday. So it's knit, knit, knit. I will post some photos soon- I guess it's easy to do?? even for me!! Gina and Molli will be so proud of me.
Also Gina is offering a beaded shawlette class in January at Stitches and Scones. If anyone is interested.

Boys- I have a blog!

After many months of procrastinating- I am really good at making excuses- this blog is off and running. Right now, it is text only- because I haven't taken the time to figure out how to post pictures. One thing at a time. My boys tease me constantly about how much time I spend lurking in blogger land- they think it is hilarious that their "computer illiterate Mom" is launching her own blog. So here I go!
